Citizen Science: Jane
It is only by careful monitoring that we know how human activity is effecting the natural environment and other species.  It can be a very rewarding and interesting experience to take part in a citizen science project. Below are a few ideas that may interest you.

Butterfly Conservation
Use the iRecord Butterflies App to add your butterfly sightings to the records of the Butterfly Conservation Trust: https://butterfly-conservation.org/our-work/recording-and-monitoring/irecord-butterflies#

Friends of the Earth
The FOE operates an annual Great British bee count. https://friendsoftheearth.uk/bee-count

The Mammal Society
Use the Mammal Mapper to record information on the location and number of animals spotted on walks or cycle rides. https://www.mammal.org.uk/volunteering/mammal-mapper/

Plantlife
Monitor the impact of nitrogen on your local wildlife by using the Lichen App.

RSPB
The RSPB’s Big Garden Bird Watch is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2019.  The bird watch will take part on the weekend of the 26-28 January.  It is very easy and if you don’t have a garden you can count the birds in a park, cemetery or similar location.

Woodland Trust
Take part in the Woodland Trust’s “Nature’s Calendar” project and help the Trust to track the effects of weather and climate change on wildlife near you.

This is just a few of the possibilities for you to get involved with.  Let us know of any projects that you have taken part in.  Why not write an article on it for GreenLight?
